Breaking Waves and Stereotypes ECYC Style!
The following Article was taken from the YSDS Employee Led Mutual pathfinder monthly Newsletter.
Some people, who haven’t got the foggiest, moan that Youth Work is all about giving kid’s treats for treats’ sake. Well OUR masters of Youth Work, from Earls Court Youth Club, have not only disproved that notion but smashed it to smithereens!
As a reward for taking part in their Young Leader’s programme – a programme designed to encourage young people to make positive contributions to the youth and wider community – they took 5 young people surfing on the Cornish coast.
Steve Hunt explained, ‘the money for the programme was raised by a Charity called CATS (Community Action Through Sport). ECYC became aware of the opportunity through its partnership links with London Youth who also attended the weekend. It goes without saying that all involved had an incredible time with the majority of young people surfing like real Pro’s by the end of the weekend…unfortunately the same couldn’t be said for those staff who took part!’
